Once you're home, short-term support usually comes through Dorset Council's reablement service, an intensive period of help designed to get you back on your feet. It's time-limited — typically up to six weeks — and it works well for many people.
The difficulty comes when that support ends but recovery hasn't finished. Progress after a stroke, a fracture or a long admission often continues for months, and six weeks rarely covers it.
