Paying for Home Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy
Four ways people fund their care with us — and what to check before you book
Most people who come to us pay privately, but that isn't the only route. If you have private health insurance, a personal budget from your council, or NHS Continuing Healthcare funding already in place, you may be able to use it towards your visits. Here's how each one works.
Four Ways to Pay
No GP referral is needed for any of them.
Paying Privately
The simplest route, and the one most of our clients use. You call us, we arrange a visit, and you pay after each appointment. There's no referral, no waiting list, and no commitment to a course of treatment.
- Initial assessment £110 for 60+ minutes
- Follow-up visits from £55
- Pay after each visit, not upfront
- Stop whenever you choose
Private Health Insurance
We work with BUPA, WPA and all the major health insurers, and we'll provide whatever invoices and treatment notes your insurer asks for.
Cover for home visits varies between policies, so it's worth checking three things with your insurer before your first appointment:
- Does your policy cover physiotherapy in your own home, rather than only at a clinic?
- Do you need pre-authorisation or a GP referral for the claim?
- Does an excess apply, and how many sessions are covered?
Personal Budgets & Direct Payments
If your council has assessed you as needing care and support, you may be given a personal budget. Where that's taken as a Direct Payment, the money comes to you and you choose who provides your care — you're not limited to council services.
Whether physiotherapy or occupational therapy is covered depends on the needs identified in your assessment, and policies differ between councils. Your social worker or the adult social care team is the right place to confirm what your budget can be used for.
Ask us how it worksNHS Continuing Healthcare
If you already have NHS Continuing Healthcare funding in place, we can accept payment from it. Everyone receiving CHC is entitled to a personal health budget, and where that's held as a direct payment you can choose your own therapy provider.
We don't arrange CHC funding and we take no part in the assessment process — your case manager or ICB handles that, and they'll confirm what your budget covers. But we're happy to talk through how working with us would fit alongside it.
Ask us how it worksOne rate, whichever way you pay
Our prices are the same for everyone — an initial assessment is £110, follow-up visits start at £55, and occupational therapy costs exactly the same as physiotherapy. There are no funding surcharges and no admin fees.
Common Questions About Paying
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can contact us directly on 07384 590177 and we'll arrange your visit. We also accept referrals from GPs, hospital consultants and insurers, but most people come to us themselves. If you're claiming on insurance, your insurer may ask for a referral as part of their own process — worth checking with them.
Does BUPA or WPA cover home physiotherapy?
We work with BUPA, WPA and all the major insurers, but whether home visits specifically are covered depends on your individual policy. Some policies cover clinic appointments only. Call your insurer and ask whether physiotherapy in your own home is included, and whether you need pre-authorisation.
Can I use a Direct Payment to pay for physiotherapy?
Often, yes — a Direct Payment lets you choose your own provider rather than using council services. But it has to meet the needs set out in your care assessment, and councils apply their own policies. Your social worker or the council's adult social care team will confirm whether it can be used this way.
Do you help people apply for NHS Continuing Healthcare?
No. CHC assessments are carried out by the NHS and we play no part in them. What we can do is accept payment from CHC funding that's already in place, and explain how our visits would work alongside your care package.
When do I pay?
After each visit, not in advance. There's no deposit and no requirement to book a block of sessions. If you'd like to arrange something different for a longer course of treatment, just ask.
Is the first conversation free?
Yes. Your initial phone consultation with our Clinical Director costs nothing and carries no obligation. She'll listen to your situation and tell you honestly whether physiotherapy or occupational therapy is likely to help.
Not sure which applies to you?
Give us a call and we'll talk it through. We can tell you what we'd need from your insurer, or how payment from a personal budget usually works in practice — no obligation, and no charge for the conversation.
