Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy & Neurological Rehabilitation At Home in Petersfield

Home physiotherapy for an elderly patient in Petersfield

If you're arranging physiotherapy for an elderly parent, getting the right care shouldn't mean struggling to travel when you're in pain, recovering from surgery, or managing a long-term condition. We come to you.

Our HCPC-registered physiotherapists cover Petersfield and the surrounding villages, including Sheet, Steep, Buriton, Stroud, Langrish and East Meon. We visit patients in their own home, care home, or nursing home — building a treatment plan around your life, not a clinic timetable.

Many older adults need both physiotherapy and occupational therapy, and most people aren't sure which one they need. The two work closely together: physiotherapy rebuilds strength, balance and movement, while occupational therapy looks at the practical business of daily life — getting in and out of a chair, managing stairs, washing and dressing safely. Call us and we'll tell you honestly what would help, and arrange it.

We treat a wide range of conditions including falls prevention, stroke rehabilitation, Parkinson's disease, hip and knee replacement recovery, back and joint pain, and post-operative rehabilitation. We aim to offer same-week appointments across the Petersfield area, and no GP referral is needed — call us directly to book your home visit.

We provide specialist home physio and OT visits for:

  • Older People Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy
  • Neurological rehabilitation — including Parkinson's disease and stroke recovery
  • Falls prevention and balance rehabilitation
  • Recovering mobility, strength and confidence after a hospital stay
  • Pre and post-operative care — including hip and knee replacements
  • Back pain, joint pain, muscle pain and more
  • Rheumatological Conditions

Living Independently at Home

Elderly patient receiving physiotherapy at home in Petersfield

We Help You Live Independently With Confidence, Meaning & Purpose

Whether you're rebuilding strength after a hip replacement, regaining confidence following a fall, or managing life with a stroke or neurological condition — getting to a clinic isn't always possible. We remove that barrier entirely.

Our physiotherapists come to you, delivering expert one-to-one treatment in your home or care home. No difficult journeys. No waiting rooms. Just focused, specialist care at a time and pace that works for you.

We treat you as a whole person — not just your symptoms.

We take the time to understand your life, your challenges, and what independence means to you. Then we build a treatment plan around that. As a small, close-knit team, we also work alongside your family and carers, making sure everyone involved in your care feels supported, informed and part of the process.

Our clinicians each hold specialist areas of expertise, and we carefully match every patient with the therapist best suited to their condition and goals. From the very first visit, you're in the right hands.

After a Hospital Stay in Petersfield

Where NHS rehabilitation ends, and how we pick up from there.

Petersfield is better served than most of the places we cover. Petersfield Hospital on Swan Street, run by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, has an urgent treatment centre open 8am to 8pm every day of the year, a rapid assessment unit for older people, and community therapy services on site. Cedar Ward provides inpatient rehabilitation, frailty and end-of-life care.

Two things are worth knowing. Cedar Ward has 21 beds — for Petersfield and the whole of the surrounding East Hampshire countryside. And there is no A&E: anything serious means Queen Alexandra Hospital at Cosham, about fifteen miles down the A3(M), run by Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.

Once you're home, short-term support usually comes through Hampshire County Council's reablement service. It's free, the teams include occupational therapists as well as care staff, and it's capped at six weeks — sometimes less, depending on your situation.

The difficulty comes when that support ends but recovery hasn't finished. Progress after a stroke, a fracture or a long admission often continues for months, and six weeks rarely covers it. That's the point at which most people call us. We continue the work at home, for as long as it's genuinely helping, and we work alongside any NHS or council support already in place rather than in place of it.

Ways to Pay

Most people pay privately, but it isn't the only route.

  • Paying privately — no referral, pay after each visit
  • Private health insurance, including BUPA and WPA
  • Personal budgets and Direct Payments from your council
  • NHS Continuing Healthcare funding you already hold

Cover varies by policy and by council, so it's worth checking what yours includes before you book. We've written a plain-English guide explaining how each route works and what to ask.

FAQs

Do you provide physiotherapy for elderly at home in Petersfield?

Yes. Salveo Forma provides home physiotherapy throughout Petersfield and the surrounding GU31 and GU32 area, with HCPC-registered clinicians visiting you in your own home, care home or nursing home. No GP referral is needed — call 07384 590177 to arrange a visit. We cover Sheet, Steep, Buriton, Stroud, Langrish and East Meon.

How much does a home physiotherapy visit cost in Petersfield?

A comprehensive initial assessment including treatment is £110 for 60 minutes or more. Follow-up visits are £55 for 30 minutes, £82.50 for 45 minutes and £110 for 60 minutes. Occupational therapy costs exactly the same as physiotherapy. Most Petersfield visits carry no travel charge.

What's the difference between physiotherapy and occupational therapy?

Physiotherapy rebuilds strength, balance and movement; occupational therapy looks at the practical business of daily life. In older adults the two overlap constantly — a physiotherapist works on the strength needed to stand from a chair, while an occupational therapist looks at whether the chair is the right height. Most people aren't sure which one they need, and that's fine. Call us on 07384 590177, describe what's happening, and we'll tell you honestly what would help and arrange it.

Do I need a GP referral for a home visit in Petersfield?

No. You can contact us directly on 07384 590177 and we'll arrange an appointment. We also accept referrals from GPs, hospital consultants and insurers, but most people come to us themselves.

Is there a hospital in Petersfield?

Yes. Petersfield Hospital on Swan Street is a community hospital run by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, with an urgent treatment centre open 8am to 8pm every day, inpatient rehabilitation on Cedar Ward and community therapy services. It does not have an A&E — the nearest is Queen Alexandra Hospital at Cosham, about fifteen miles away.

How does this work alongside NHS rehabilitation and Hampshire's reablement service?

We work alongside NHS and council support rather than replacing it. Hampshire County Council's reablement service is free, includes occupational therapists, and runs for a maximum of six weeks after a hospital discharge. Most of our clients come to us once that has finished but recovery is still going on. If you are currently under NHS care, tell us and we'll make sure what we do complements it.

How quickly can someone visit me in Petersfield?

We aim to offer same-week appointments wherever possible. Availability does vary by area and by therapist, so we work with you to find a time that fits around your commitments. Call 07384 590177 and we'll tell you honestly what we can do.

Why Home Visits Make Sense in Petersfield

If you're arranging physiotherapy for an elderly parent in Petersfield, the hard part usually isn't finding a physiotherapist. It's getting your mother to one.

Most families who call us here are in one of two situations. Either somebody has come home from hospital and the council's six weeks have run out before they were ready — or a fall has taken their confidence, and the idea of getting to an appointment and back is doing more harm than the appointment would do good.

Petersfield has more older residents than most places. Nearly a quarter of the town is over 65, well above the England average of 18.4 per cent, and that rises across the villages around it. It also has genuinely good local services — a community hospital with an urgent treatment centre, a rapid assessment unit for older people, and community therapy on site. This is not a place we would describe as neglected.

What it doesn't have is capacity to match. Cedar Ward has twenty-one rehabilitation beds for the town and the whole of the countryside around it, and the moment someone is well enough, they go home. There's no A&E either, so anything urgent after 8pm means fifteen miles down the A3(M) to Queen Alexandra at Cosham. For a family living in Steep or Langrish or East Meon, that's a long way to be at nine o'clock at night with a parent who has had a fall.

We fill the gap that opens after all of that — when the ward has discharged you, the reablement team has finished, and there is still real recovery left to do. We come to the house, for as long as it's genuinely helping, and we work around whatever NHS or council support you already have rather than duplicating it.
