Beaulieu is a village of around 760 people, and more than a quarter of them are aged 65 or over — 27.2 per cent, against 18.4 per cent for England as a whole. Nearly three in ten households contain nobody under 66 at all. In a settlement this size that is not an abstraction: it is most of a street, and it means a large share of the village is managing the ordinary business of getting older without a younger person in the house.

There is no GP surgery in Beaulieu. The nearest practice is at Brockenhurst, five or six miles off, and the nearest hospital of any kind is Hythe, about four and a half miles north, run by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Lymington New Forest Hospital, six and a half miles south-west, has the urgent treatment centre and the stroke rehabilitation unit. For an A&E you are looking at Southampton General, thirteen miles away.

Most Beaulieu households have a car, and several have two or three — which is precisely the point. This is a village organised on the assumption that everybody drives. When that assumption stops applying to you, what remains is the 112 bus: four journeys a day towards Lymington, three back towards Hythe, Monday to Friday only, with nothing at all at weekends. It does at least stop at both community hospitals. But a twice-weekly outpatient appointment on that timetable means giving up most of the day, twice a week, at exactly the point in your recovery when you have the least energy to spare.

After a hospital stay, short-term support usually comes through Hampshire County Council's reablement service, which is free, includes occupational therapists as well as care staff, and is capped at six weeks. It does good work inside that window. The difficulty is what happens afterwards, when the team has finished and recovery has not. We pick up there — at home, for as long as it is genuinely helping, and alongside any NHS or council support already in place rather than instead of it.

After a Hospital Stay in Beaulieu

Where NHS rehabilitation ends, and how we pick up from there.

The nearest hospital to Beaulieu is Hythe Hospital, about four and a half miles north, run by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Lymington New Forest Hospital, six and a half miles south-west, is the larger of the two: it has an urgent treatment centre open from 8am to 9pm every day of the year, a stroke rehabilitation unit and a diagnostic centre. Neither has an A&E. For emergency admissions or major surgery you are going to Southampton General, thirteen miles away and part of University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

Once you're home, short-term support usually comes through Hampshire County Council's reablement service. It's free, the teams include occupational therapists as well as care staff, and it is capped at six weeks — sometimes less, depending on your situation.

The difficulty comes when that support ends but recovery hasn't finished. Progress after a stroke, a fracture or a long admission often continues for months, and six weeks rarely covers it. Continuing as an outpatient means the journey to Lymington or Hythe, and unless somebody can drive you that means the 112 bus — a handful of journeys a day, weekdays only, nothing at weekends. Two appointments a week on that timetable is most of two days gone.

We continue the work at home instead, for as long as it's genuinely helping, and we work alongside any NHS or council support already in place rather than in place of it. If you're unsure whether it's too soon or too late to start, call us and we'll tell you honestly.

Living Independently at Home

Older adult receiving physiotherapy at home

We Help You Live Independently With Confidence, Meaning & Purpose

Whether you're rebuilding strength after a hip replacement, regaining confidence following a fall, or managing life with a stroke or neurological condition — getting to a clinic isn't always possible. We remove that barrier entirely.

Our physiotherapists and occupational therapists come to you, delivering expert one-to-one treatment in your home or care home. No difficult journeys. No waiting rooms. Just focused, specialist care at a time and pace that works for you.

We treat you as a whole person — not just your symptoms.

We take the time to understand your life, your challenges, and what independence means to you. Then we build a treatment plan around that. As a small, close-knit team, we also work alongside your family and carers, making sure everyone involved in your care feels supported, informed and part of the process.

Our clinicians each hold specialist areas of expertise, and we carefully match every patient with the therapist best suited to their condition and goals. From the very first visit, you're in the right hands.

FAQs

Do you provide home physiotherapy in Beaulieu?

Yes. Salveo Forma provides home physiotherapy and occupational therapy throughout Beaulieu and the surrounding SO42 area, with HCPC-registered clinicians visiting you in your own home, care home or nursing home. No GP referral is needed — call 07384 590177 to arrange a visit. We cover Hill Top, Buckler's Hard, East Boldre, Hatchet Gate and Furzey Lodge.

How much does a home physiotherapy visit cost in Beaulieu?

A comprehensive initial assessment including treatment is £110 for 60 minutes or more. Follow-up visits are £55 for 30 minutes, £82.50 for 45 minutes and £110 for 60 minutes. Occupational therapy costs exactly the same as physiotherapy. Because Beaulieu is some distance from our nearest bases, we agree any travel charge with you before the first visit rather than adding it afterwards.

Can I use private health insurance or a personal budget?

Yes. We work with BUPA, WPA and all major insurers, and we can accept payment from a council personal budget or Direct Payment, or from NHS Continuing Healthcare funding you already hold. Cover varies by policy and by council, so check what yours includes first — our guide to paying for care explains what to ask.

Do I need a GP referral for a home visit in Beaulieu?

No. You can contact us directly on 07384 590177 and we'll arrange an appointment. We also accept referrals from GPs, hospital consultants and insurers, but most people come to us themselves.

Is there a GP surgery or hospital in Beaulieu?

No. Beaulieu has no GP surgery and no hospital of its own. The nearest practice is at Brockenhurst, five or six miles away, and the nearest hospital is Hythe, about four and a half miles north. Lymington New Forest Hospital, six and a half miles south-west, has the urgent treatment centre and stroke rehabilitation unit, and the nearest A&E is Southampton General at thirteen miles.

How does this work alongside NHS rehabilitation at Lymington New Forest Hospital?

We work alongside NHS rehabilitation rather than replacing it. Lymington New Forest Hospital provides stroke rehabilitation and outpatient therapy for this part of the New Forest, and many of our clients have already been through it. Where we help is afterwards — when NHS input has finished but recovery hasn't, when Hampshire's six-week reablement period ends before you're ready, or when the journey there and back is no longer realistic without someone to drive you.

How quickly can someone visit me in Beaulieu?

We aim to offer same-week appointments wherever possible. Availability does vary by area and by therapist, so we work with you to find a time that fits around your commitments. Call 07384 590177 and we'll tell you honestly what we can do.
