Back pain
Assessment and treatment
Lower back pain is one of the leading causes of disability and physiotherapy is widely used and recommended for treatment. There can be various causes of acute back pain such as injury, disc prolapse or muscle strain as well as more serious causes which will be screened for.
Sometimes back pain can persist and it can be difficult to know what to do for the best. Your physiotherapist will carry out a physical examination and will be able to advise you how to best manage your condition and guide you back to your normal activities.
Some people may experience leg pain which can be related to conditions in the back such as spinal stenosis.
Your musculoskeletal physiotherapist will wish to fully assess your back pain to help determine the cause of symptoms and how best to manage and treat your condition.
They may use a combination of techniques including, education, advice, manual therapy, movement and postural advice, acupuncture and exercises.
Our physiotherapists can help improve your symptoms and restore your function.
