Where NHS rehabilitation ends, and how we pick up from there.
Keynsham sits between two cities, and it would be dishonest to open any other way. There are emergency departments about six miles away in both directions: the Bristol Royal Infirmary, run by Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, which was formed in July 2026 from the city's two hospital trusts, and the Royal United Hospital in Bath, run by Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust. Southmead Hospital in Bristol is the region's major trauma centre. For urgent problems that are not emergencies, the urgent treatment centre at South Bristol Community Hospital is open from 8am to 8pm every day.
So the honest question is: with all of that nearby, why would you need us?
Because the hospital is where the operation happens, and home is where the recovery happens. A hip replacement, a knee, a fractured wrist or hip — the surgery takes a morning. The rebuilding takes weeks, and almost all of it happens in your own house. A hospital in Bristol or Bath does nothing for you at week three, when you still cannot manage your own stairs and the exercise sheet is on the kitchen table.
Outpatient physiotherapy is the other half of it. It exists, and it is good, but it means getting there — into Bristol, or into Bath — and parking, on a leg or a hip that is not ready for any of that. Keynsham has quick trains to both cities, but neither hospital is at the station. For a lot of older people the journey is harder than the treatment, and appointments get missed for exactly that reason.

Keynsham has emergency departments within about six miles in both Bristol and Bath. That is fortunate, and it is worth saying first.
It is also older than England as a whole.
