The median age in Barton on Sea is 65. In England as a whole it is 40. Very few places in the country are built so completely around later life.

Barton on Sea has one of the oldest populations of any built-up area in England. Its median age of 65 is twenty-five years above the national figure, and more than half of everyone here aged 16 or over has already retired. Among the 6,760 people living along these cliffs, the conditions we treat — falls, hip and knee replacements, Parkinson's disease, stroke recovery — are not occasional events. They are the ordinary business of the village.
The geography adds its own difficulty. Barton sits on a cliff top above Christchurch Bay, and the paths down to the beach are steep enough that many residents stop using them long before they stop walking. There is no hospital in the village and none in New Milton either. Lymington New Forest Hospital is roughly seven miles east; anything acute means the Royal Bournemouth, ten miles the other way, or Southampton General further still. Every appointment is a car journey somebody has to arrange — and in a village where half the adults are retired, the person who would normally drive is often the one who needs the appointment.
That is the gap we fill. Our physiotherapists and occupational therapists come to your front door and work alongside whatever NHS or Hampshire County Council support is already in place, rather than in place of it. The council's reablement service is capped at six weeks; recovery after a fracture or a stroke rarely keeps to that timetable. We pick up where it finishes, in the rooms and on the stairs you actually use, and continue for as long as the treatment is genuinely helping.
Nothing means more to us than the 5-star reviews our clients share on Google. These heartfelt testimonials showcase what drives our team every day — delivering expert, empathetic physiotherapy care that helps people rebuild their strength, mobility, and independence without leaving home.

Where NHS rehabilitation ends, and how we pick up from there.
There is no hospital in Barton on Sea, and none in New Milton either. The nearest is Lymington New Forest Hospital, roughly seven miles east, which has a stroke rehabilitation unit, an urgent treatment centre and outpatient therapy under Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Surgery and emergency admissions usually mean the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, about ten miles west, or University Hospital Southampton further on.
Once you're home, short-term support usually comes through Hampshire County Council's reablement service, an intensive period of help designed to get you back on your feet. Their reablement teams include occupational therapists as well as care staff. It's free, it's time-limited — a maximum of six weeks, sometimes less — and it works well for many people.
The difficulty comes when that support ends but recovery hasn't finished. Progress after a stroke, a fracture or a long admission often continues for months, and six weeks rarely covers it. In a village where more than half the adults are retired, the practical problem compounds: continuing outpatient appointments in Lymington or Bournemouth need somebody able to drive you there and back, week after week, at exactly the point when you cannot drive yourself.
We continue the work at home, for as long as it's genuinely helping, and we work alongside any NHS or council support already in place rather than in place of it. If you're unsure whether it's too soon or too late to start, call us and we'll tell you honestly.
We Help You Live Independently With Confidence, Meaning & Purpose
Whether you're rebuilding strength after a hip replacement, regaining confidence following a fall, or managing life with a stroke or neurological condition — getting to a clinic isn't always possible. We remove that barrier entirely.
Our physiotherapists and occupational therapists come to you, delivering expert one-to-one treatment in your home or care home. No difficult journeys. No waiting rooms. Just focused, specialist care at a time and pace that works for you.
We treat you as a whole person — not just your symptoms.
We take the time to understand your life, your challenges, and what independence means to you. Then we build a treatment plan around that. As a small, close-knit team, we also work alongside your family and carers, making sure everyone involved in your care feels supported, informed and part of the process.
Our clinicians each hold specialist areas of expertise, and we carefully match every patient with the therapist best suited to their condition and goals. From the very first visit, you're in the right hands.
Request a Call BackDo you provide home physiotherapy in Barton on Sea?
Yes. Salveo Forma provides home physiotherapy and occupational therapy throughout Barton on Sea and the surrounding BH25 area, with HCPC-registered clinicians visiting you in your own home, care home or nursing home. No GP referral is needed — call 07384 590177 to arrange a visit. We cover Walkford, Old Milton and Everton.
How much does a home physiotherapy visit cost in Barton on Sea?
A comprehensive initial assessment including treatment is £110 for 60 minutes or more. Follow-up visits are £55 for 30 minutes, £82.50 for 45 minutes and £110 for 60 minutes. Occupational therapy costs exactly the same as physiotherapy. Most Barton on Sea visits carry no travel charge.
Can I use private health insurance or a personal budget?
Yes. We work with BUPA, WPA and all major insurers, and we can accept payment from a council personal budget or Direct Payment, or from NHS Continuing Healthcare funding you already hold. Cover varies by policy and by council, so check what yours includes first — our guide to paying for care explains what to ask.
Do I need a GP referral for a home visit in Barton on Sea?
No. You can contact us directly on 07384 590177 and we'll arrange an appointment. We also accept referrals from GPs, hospital consultants and insurers, but most people come to us themselves.
How does this work alongside NHS rehabilitation at Lymington New Forest Hospital?
We work alongside NHS rehabilitation rather than replacing it. Lymington New Forest Hospital provides stroke rehabilitation and outpatient therapy for this part of the New Forest, and many of our clients have already been through it. Where we help is afterwards — when NHS input has finished but recovery hasn't, when Hampshire's six-week reablement period ends before you're ready, or when a seven-mile round trip for each appointment isn't realistic without someone to drive you. If you are currently under NHS care, tell us and we'll make sure what we do complements it.
What conditions do you treat at home in Barton on Sea?
We treat falls prevention and balance problems, stroke rehabilitation, Parkinson's disease, hip and knee replacement recovery, back and joint pain, and general deconditioning after a hospital stay. Our occupational therapists also support older adults with daily living and maintaining independence at home.
How quickly can someone visit me in Barton on Sea?
We aim to offer same-week appointments wherever possible. Availability does vary by area and by therapist, so we work with you to find a time that fits around your commitments. Call 07384 590177 and we'll tell you honestly what we can do.
